ABOUT THE ARTIST

Deborah Hamon

Deborah Hamon, born in Adelaide, Australia, is a Bay-area artist who is an accomplished creative with experience in painting, photography, graphic design, and illustration. Hamon has an MFA from the University of California and later was a part of The Arctic Circle Residency.

Hamon’s current studio practice is focused on making paintings that are inspired by nature, travel, and the photographs she takes where she explores both abstraction and representation. Playing with different types of mark making, pattern, and thick and thin paint, her interest lies in trying to find the right balance between looseness and control, flatness and dimension, abstraction and representation, different brush strokes and surface qualities, complexity and simplicity, and quirkiness and beauty. Simultaneously, she is interested in open-ended narratives about the human condition and often uses metaphor in her artwork.

Hamon has shown her work at museums and galleries both nationally and internationally. She is in the permanent collection at the prestigious Crocker Art Museum and West Collection, and has been the recipient of numerous awards, honors, and mentions.
